A precisamente un año de la muerte de Lou Reed, su compañero en The Velvet Underground John Cale decidió homenajear su figura y su legado en el video de una nueva versión de “If You Were Still Around“, single que publicó Cale en 1982, parte del disco Music for a New Society. El audiovisual fue dirigido por Abigail Portner y en él se ven imágenes de Reed y Cale en la época de su ya mítica agrupación mezcladas con una interpretación en vivo de la canción a cargo de Cale.
Se trata de un trabajo super cuidado y, por el background de la historia, más que emocionante. Cale publicó además el siguiente comunicado:
“A Moth and a Candle met. They decided to become friends. Everyone enjoyed watching their discourse – especially the risk takers. Then one day a big rain came. The Moth couldn’t fly and the Candle puttered out. Everyone laughed in bitter awe and blamed the rain. Most however knew the deeper truth – the Candle remains lit and the Moth will stay close.”
